Ishpeming decides on a new city attorney
ISHPEMING – The city of Ishpeming has a new city attorney as of this evening. The Ishpeming City Council held a special meeting and a decision was reached, although it was not unanimous. The council voted last week on a candidate but they couldn’t agree.
Bonnie Hoff was voted in by a decision of three to two. No one disagreed on her qualifications, but on her living in Skandia and her limited availability.
“I just think Bonnie Huff is more experienced, from her resume and her interview she did a fantastic job and I think she is more qualified than any of the other candidates”, said Joseph Juidici, a member of the Ishpeming City Council.
“She is very impressive and she does have excellent credentials… I have nothing against her. But, I am a firm believer in hometown. The main thing is she lives quite a ways away and the other applicant was somebody that was directly in town, just two blocks away, so that was one of my main points,” said Mike Tonkin, another Ishpeming City Council member.
“I have stated before that it is their decision and not mine. I will work with whoever they hire and I am content to work with who they hire and in this case, I am looking forward to working with Bonnie Hoff,” said city manager Mark Slown.
The current city attorney, David Savu is retiring after 40 years.
