State grants awarded to U.P. townships
State grants will be helping out three cities in the U.P.
State Representative Greg Markkanen announced the awarding of three state grants, given to Ontonagon, Gaastra, and Crystal Falls.
In Ontonagon, nearly $228,000 has been awarded for a new fire truck. It will replace a fire department rescue truck.
In Gaastra, $298,000 has been awarded and will repair a water storage tank.
And in Crystal Falls, nearly $36,000 was given to improve water system infrastructure. This funding could cover staff, equipment, supplies, and more.
A total of 2.7 million dollars was awarded to 16 municipalities around the state. The grants are part of the Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Townships Program.
