Local Beach Closes Due To High Levels Of E.coli In Water

MARQUETTE, Mich – A local beach will be closed for swimming today.

South Beach in Marquette is closed for swimming due to elevated levels of bacteria, specifically E.coli.

The City of Marquette has been collecting water samples daily and will reopen the beach to swimming when state water quality standards are met.

Despite the higher levels of E.coli around Marquette beaches, EGLE’S Water Resources Division has been monitoring lakes, rivers and streams for E.coli and other pathogens.

EGLE is monitoring over 140 river sites throughout the state.
