House of Representatives supports bills for school funding across Northern Michigan
A bill package to increase funding for Northern Michigan schools received bipartisan support in the state House of Representatives today.
House bills 4411 and 4421 would give 17.6 billion dollars in educational support in the upcoming fiscal year, as well as one–time COVID–19 relief funding for schools. Schools would get nearly eleven hundred dollars per student.
State Representative Ken Borton said, “For years, students in Northern Michigan schools have been treated unfairly by Lansing politicians. These kids are our future, and I am proud to support a comprehensive budget to equalize per–pupil foundation grants and increase them across the board.”
The Senate still needs to consider the bill.
