Environmental Protection Agency docks boat in Marquette
The Environmental Protection Agency’s largest research vessel was in Marquette today.
The Lake Guardian, a research boat owned and operated by the EPA’s Great Lakes National Program Office, is docked at Ellwood A. Mattson Lower Harbor Park near Downtown Marquette until tomorrow.
Scientists aboard the boat will be testing the lake for contaminants that may affect the lower end of the food chain. The contamination can eventually make its way into predators at the top of the food chain, such as trout and walleye.
The Lake Guardian is equipped with extensive testing equipment along with three laboratories.
