City of Marquette bans smoking in parks, beaches

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Commission is cracking down on smoking in public places.

In a 7–0 vote Monday night, the commission passed an amendment to an already existing ordinance.

Under the amendment, smoking is banned at all city–owned parks and beaches.

Bike paths were considered for inclusion in the amendment, but commissioners decided more information is required to make a decision.

Special events with permits can be exempt.
