Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team assists disoriented Hikers

MARQUETTE — On Wednesday, July 8, The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team assisted a pair of hikers who became disoriented.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Search and Rescue team were dispatched to the Wetmore Pond Recreation Area.

The two hikers, 31–year–old Steffanie Pepin and 33–year–old Andrew Mansfield of Marquette, lost the trail they were on in the darkness of an approaching thunder storm. The couple was able to use their cell phone to call for help.

Marquette County Central Dispatch gathered their location, and Search and Rescue team members hiked into the trails and assisted the couple back to their vehicle in the Wetmore Pond parking lot, both uninjured.
