HOUGHTON — On April 15, organizers announced that this year’s Bridgefest Celebration has been canceled.

Originally scheduled for June 18-21, this would have been the 33rd annual Bridgefest event.

This is the time of year organizers would usually be coming to decisions about the event, but due to the uncertainty of the COVID–19 crisis and in the interest of public health, they decided it was best to cancel.

Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce Board President Mary Myers released a statement saying, “This was one of the most difficult decisions the Chamber and the Board have had to make in a very long time. Knowing the history and tradition behind the Bridgefest Celebration, I can assure you this decision was not made lightly or without extensive conversation amongst the Board. However, the health and safety of the community are much more important to us. We will be back in 2021, and it will be bigger, it will be better than ever.”

Once the coronavirus pandemic has died down, the Keweenaw Chamber is looking to host an event for the community to reboot the local economy. Anyone interested in getting involved with a future event is asked to contact the chamber at info@keweenaw.org.
