Felonious assault complaint involving shotgun

 
MARQUETTE COUNTY — At approximately 9:00 AM on October 27th, 2019, Troopers were dispatched to an address in Humboldt Twp. for a felonious assault complaint involving a firearm. It was reported that the suspect became violent during an argument with family members over money.
 
When family began to leave the suspect residence, in an attempt to defuse the situation, the suspect exited the home with a shotgun and fired the shotgun in the direction of their vehicles. Troopers learned from family that the male suspect had recently been released from jail and is suffering from a mental illness. The suspect had also made several statements about killing people and taking his own life. 
Troopers made contact with the suspect who was armed with a shotgun as he was leaving his residence by boat on a river to the rear of his property. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect will be taken to a facility for a mental health evaluation and is facing several counts of felonious assault involving a firearm. 
 
Negaunee Post Troopers were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team, Officers from the Department of Natural Resources, Ely Twp. First Responders, UP Health System EMS, Marquette County Central Dispatch and Negaunee Regional Dispatch.
