UPDATE: Search for missing man ends after the victim was found

UPDATE — The name of the drowning victim is 28-year-old Alex McDernott of Felch, MI.

The victim of the drowning was discovered on July 7th by citizens on shore.

The victim was transported from the scene to Dickinson County Hospital.


HARDWOOD — Police are looking for a 28-year-old man after he jumped off his pontoon boat and never resurfaced.

At 5:17 p.m. on Saturday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post were dispatched to Stromberg Park, located on the East Branch of the Sturgeon River in Hardwood. Upon arrival, troopers immediately started looking for the man, but called off the search due to darkness.

They also had the search going into Sunday as well with no luck in finding the individual.

The Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post says the search continues Monday for the 28-year-old man who disappeared in the East Branch of the Sturgeon River.

The man’s name is not being released at this time.

Troopers were assisted on the scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, DNR, the Delta Dive Team, the Norway Fire Department, Nordic Rescue, Beacon Ambulance, and several citizens on the scene.
