LUCE — At approximately 9:45 a.m., on Friday, March 29, Chippewa County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a 24-year-old male subject.

The subject said that he was at the Upper Tahquamenon Falls State Park, armed with a firearm, and contemplating suicide.

According to officials, Chippewa County Central Dispatch kept in contact with the subject while law enforcement secured the scene.

After several hours of negotiations the man turned himself over to authorities and he was taken into custody without incident.

A firearm was located in his vehicle and seized.

He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Sections of M-123, near the upper falls were closed temporarily and employees of the Tahquamenon Falls Brewery and Pub were on lock-down inside the pub until the incident was resolved.

The incident remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police, assisted by Luce county Sheriff’s Department, Chippewa County Sheriffs Department, Michgan Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Border Patrol responded to scene.
