Fatal car accident on US-41 over weekend
ESCANABA — There was a 2 vehicle crash with one fatality in Escanaba last weekend. The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post is investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash had occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday September 1, 2018.
Around 4:10 am Delta County Dispatch received a cell phone call reporting an erratic driver southbound on US–41 near 38th road. At 4:16 am, as dispatch was processing the first call, a second call was received reporting a head on traffic crash on US–41 just north of South 15 Road.
The Southbound passenger car had crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a northbound semi–truck. The driver of the Semi–Truck tried to avoid collision but was unable to. The driver of the passenger car was identified as 21 year old Sean Lake from L’anse, Michigan.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the semi who was identified as 27 year old Brandon Belanger from Escanaba, Mi was transported to OSF St. Francis in Escanaba for treatment of minor injuries.
Traffic crash investigators were called to the scene to assist along with the Michigan State Police 8th District Traffic Crash Reconstructionist.
The investigation of the accident is still ongoing.
