Multiple vehicle accident leaves one dead in Houghton County
SIDNAW — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet post were dispatched to M-28 two miles west of Sidnaw in Duncan Township, Houghton County for a multiple vehicle personal injury accident.
The call came in at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Friday, August 17.
An investigation determined that a 73-year-old Roberta Vizina of Baraga was driving a 2000 Honda Accord westbound on M-23 when she rear-ended a 2015 Toyota Highlander which was driven by 59-year-old Karen Moller of Eveleth, Minnesota.
Moller was stopped in the westbound lane for a temporary lane closure due to construction. As a result of the crash, the 2015 Toyota Highlander rear-ended a 2001 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by 49-year-old Garrett Ayotte of Bad Axe, MI, who was stopped ahead of Moller.
Vinzina was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay EMS, where she was later pronounced dead. The other two drivers reported no injuries.
Michigan State Police were assisted by Covington Township Fire Department, Duncan Township Fire Department, and Bay EMS.
