UPDATE: Body found floating in Chain Lake by kayakers in the area.

CHAIN LAKE — At approximately 8:17 a.m., the identity of the male found floating has been identified.

He was 47-year-old David John McFarlane of St. Ignace.

The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation and foul play is not suspected.

Deputies have received tips and are continuing to track down leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

CHAIN LAKE — According to reports, fingerprints were difficult to obtain but one print was able to be used for identification.

The next of kin has been notified, but has not been completed and the name of the male will be released once the family has verified.

Several tips have been called in and deputies are continuing to track down the leads.

CHAIN LAKE — On Monday, August 13, Mackinac County Sheriff Deputies responded to a floating body that was found in Chain Lake near St. Ignace.

The call came in around 3 p.m. after it was discovered by kayakers in the area.

It appeared that the body may have been in the water for several days.

The identity of the person is still unknown but deputies are continuing their investigation to identify the person.

The body was taken to Grand Rapids and an autopsy has revealed the following:

  • The body is a male approximately 30 to 40 years-old
  • Brown to dark brown hair
  • 5 foot 9 inches tall,
  • 32 inch waist
  • No tattoos
  • No obvious signs of trauma
