UPDATE: Shooting in Chippewa County leaves one dead

A 34-year-old Lansing man is charged with homicide after police say he shot a man inside in an Upper Peninsula cabin.
Aaron Roberts is accused of killing 51-year-old Kevin Belonga of St. Ignace. The incident took place in Trout Lake Township in Chippewa County on Saturday, when troopers were called to a cabin on O.J. Miller Road.
State police say when they arrived on scene and took Roberts into custody, he identified himself as “the shooter.” The area was secured and Roberts was taken into custody without incident. Inside the cabin Troopers found Kevin Belonga, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Monday morning Roberts was arraigned in the 91st District Court of Chippewa County on one count of homicide and one county felony firearm. State police say the incident is still under investigation. Roberts is being held on a $100,000 bond, if convicted he could face up to 15 years in prison. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2018.
TROUT LAKE — On Saturday, August 11, at approximately 4 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a reported shooting at a rental cabin in Trout Lake.
The responding troopers secured the scene and took one subject into custody.
One shooting victim on the scene was found dead.
The incident is under further investigation.
Michigan State Police were assisted by Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Sault Tribe Police Dept., Chippewa Township EMS, detectives from the Sault Ste. Marie and Negaunee MSP posts, and the MSP Grayling Forensic Lab.
