Police investigating vehicle fire, larceny at Houghton County party spot
COPPER CITY — The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department is investigation the arson of a motor vehicle and larceny from the vehicle on Saturday.
At approximately 9:20 a.m., a passerby was walking the tow track road about one mile north of the Copper City Road and observed a 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab truck partly on fire and smoldering. He immediately called 911 for assistance at the scene.
The location of the vehicle fire is a well-known local party spot called the “Sugar Bowl” near Copper City. A large party had taken place the previous evening and early morning hours, and the truck had been left on the scene by the owner, who said that the vehicle had run out of gas.
The vehicle suffered severe damage from the fire and was a total loss. Prior to the fire, the suspect or suspects took the wheels and tires off of the vehicle, along with the license plate. The wheels are the original Chevrolet wheels with an unknown brand of tire.
