Driver freed from semi after rollover accident in Hancock
HANCOCK — One driver was freed using the jaws of life after being trapped in his semi that rolled over in Hancock Tuesday night.
The Hancock Police Department was dispatched to North Lincoln Drive/US-41 at approximately 10:10 p.m. It was reported that a semi had rolled over and the driver was trapped inside.
Investigators say that the semi, owned by A & L Iron and Metal out of Ishpeming, was traveling southbound on the roadway and rolled off on a sharp corner on the south side of Ethel Avenue. The driver, a 51 year-old male, was trapped in the vehicle for about one hour.
After he was freed, the driver was transported to UPHS – Portage before being airlifted to Ann Arbor for the treatment of his injuries. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
The Hancock Fire Department, Hurontown Fire Rescue, Houghton Police Department, MTU Public Safety, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Mercy Ambulance, Superior Service Towing and the Michigan State Police assisted on the scene.
