According to a press release from the Hancock City Police Department, Duane Kangas’s autopsy will be performed Monday.

Authorities are still trying to locate the vehicle Kangas was reportedly driving when he disappeared. Anyone with information regarding the black 1996 Olds Bravada is asked to contact the Hancock City Police Department at (906) 482-3102. The vehicle’s registration is DGV-3221.


HANCOCK — The search for a missing 38 year-old Hancock man is over.

According to Keweenaw Report, authorities were called to the Portage Canal near Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton at 3:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The report stated that a body had been found.

The body was identified as Duane Kangas, who was first reported missing in last November. This was confirmed on a post on the Help Find Duane Kangas Facebook page.

Kangas was last seen at the Krist gas station when he dropped his wife off at work on November 7th. There’s no word on what happened to the car Kangas was reportedly driving when he disappeared. The car is a black 1996 Olds Bravada.

An autopsy will be conducted.
