Wisconsin man dead after snowmobile accident in Gogebic County
GOGEBIC COUNTY — The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a second fatal snowmobile accident within 26 hours.
Officers responded to the intersection of U.S. 2 and Ramsay Crossing shortly after 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The initial investigation revealed that a 52 year-old Wisconsin man attempted to cross U.S. 2 on his snowmobile when he was struck by an eastbound pickup truck.
The victim was transported to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital by Beacon Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing. No names are being released pending notification of family members. It does not appear at this time that alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident, however, officials say it is likely that the weather and visibility were significant factors in the accident.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, Beacon Ambulance, Bessemer Township Fire Department and Gogebic County Victim Service.
