WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Michigan Tech employee will testify Thursday before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.

Guy Meadows, the director of the Great Lakes Research Center, will testify before the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard at 10:00 a.m. ET in Washington, D.C. The topic of the hearing is “Coast Guard Readiness: How Far Can we Stretch our Nation’s Only Multi-Mission Military Force?”

The hearing will examine the Coast Guard’s role in preparation and response to national disasters, drug enforcement, ice-breaking, safety navigation, oil spill response and non-maritime emergency response. The Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Paul Zukunft, Lee Smithson of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and Etta Kuzakin of King Cove, Alaska will also be testifying.
