NMU holds Veterans Day ceremony Saturday
MARQUETTE — Veterans Day is this weekend and NMU will be honoring American heroes with the ultimate American pastime, football.
At 12:05 on Saturday’s NMU football game a salute will be given to all of those who have served our country. The KBIC Native American color guard will also be helping with the ceremony held outside of the Superior Dome. The best part is, Vets, no matter their service, will be able to enter the game for free including one free guest on behalf of the university.
“Well NMU has always had some type of recognition for Veterans Day on the game closest to Veterans Day, but this is the first time we have done something so large. This is the third year in a row we have been recognized as a gold status with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and my office has been open for almost three years now so we thought we’d ramp it up a bit this time,” said Michael Rutledge, Coordinator of Student Veterans Services.
There will be other events occurring on campus. The Volleyball game will also be free to Veterans as well as the swimming meet which is free for everyone. Veterans are encouraged to come out and support the Wildcats as NMU supports veterans.
