Phone solicitors making sexually obscene calls from local numbers

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Safety Department has received concerns of phone solicitation from local telephone numbers. When the call is answered, a computer generated voice will discuss lowering credit card interest rates and give the option of pressing a number depending on what one’s choice is.

The receiver will then be forwarded to a “live person” who will ask and say sexually obscene comments. If the number is called back, the owner of the number will answer, knowing nothing about the obscene call.

The caller does not ask for personal information, but simply makes obscene comments. Escabana Public Safety recommends that those who receive a similar call and are not expecting a call about lowering credit card interest rates to hang up immediately.
