MANISTIQUE TOWNSHIP — A motorcyclist was injured after he collided with a deer Sunday morning in Manistique Township.

A trooper with the Michigan State Police was on patrol when he drove up on the accident on US-2 near Tannery Road. A 59-year-old Macomb, Mich. man was traveling west on a 2014 Harley-Davidson when a deer ran south across the road in front of him.

The collision separated the man from the motorcycle. The machine came to a rest after hitting a mailbox.

The man was wearing a full face helmet and other protective gear at the time of the crash. He was taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The deer did not survive the accident.
