UPDATE: Multiple agencies respond to structure fire

UPDATE — MARCH 28, 2017 8:48 P.M. EDT

According to fire officials from the Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department, a fire broke out in the northwest corner of the first floor of a home on the 500 block of Jasper Street. Crews arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the house. The fire was contained quickly and responders stayed an extra hour and a half to mop up hot spots.

Significant fire, smoke and water damage were done to the home, which was insured. The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Assistance was offered to the homeowners through the American Red Cross and Pigs and Heat Fund. The fire remains under investigation.

The City of Negaunee Fire Department, Marquette County 131 Rescue Ishpeming Police Department, UPPCO, SEMCO and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division assisted on scene.


ISHPEMING — Multiple fire departments were on scene at a structure fire that was called in just after four o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

A fire broke out in the upper level of a residence on the five hundred block of Jasper Street. The Ishpeming City Fire Department, Negaunee City Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue Unit 131 were on scene, battling the blaze.

Smoke was seen coming out of the attic. The fire was under control within minutes of the department’s arrival. Officials on scene said nobody was home at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.
