Woman dies of possible drug overdose

HANCOCK — The Hancock Police Department is investigating the death of a 23-year-old woman.

At approximately 11:10 p.m. Monday, the department responded to a 911 call on the 1000 block of Summit Street. Upon their arrival, officers found an unresponsive woman on the bathroom floor.

CPR was administered until Mercy Ambulance arrived. The woman was taken to UP Health System – Portage where she was later pronounced dead.

Police believe the woman may have died of a drug overdose. An autopsy is being conducted to determine an exact cause of death.

The woman’s name is not being released. The Houghton Police Department and Michigan Tech University Public Safety assisted at the scene.
