UPDATE: Missing college students located

UPDATE — MONDAY, JANUARY 2ND, 2017 9:00 a.m. EDT

The two missing Michigan Tech students traveling from Houghton to Sawyer International Airport have been located by police.

According to Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt, their vehicle went off the road on Kates Grade Road, near County Road 581. Police made contact with the two students, who were found approximately two miles away from where they went off the road.

MARQUETTE COUNTY — Authorities in Marquette County are currently searching for a vehicle containing two Michigan Tech students that allegedly went off the road and into the woods early Monday morning.

At approximately 5:50 a.m., Marquette County Central Dispatch received a call from a man at Sawyer International Airport stating that two students traveling from Houghton to Marquette to pick him up went off the road and became stuck. They were able to contact their friend by text only.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for the students and the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a newer model silver hatchback Ford Focus.

Officers are using GPS Coordinates to try and find the individuals. Police believe the two people and their vehicle may be somewhere in the Tilden Township area.

Besides being MTU students, the identities of both people are unknown at this time. If you have any information regarding the vehicle or the students, call 911.
