City manager fires police chief

IRON RIVER — Laura Frizzo is no longer the chief of police in Iron River. City manager David Thayer confirmed with ABC 10 Monday morning that Frizzo’s contract with the city has been terminated.

Frizzo was relieved of her duties on Friday. According to Thayer, Frizzo was terminated due to irreconcible differences.

Thayer said terminating Frizzo was “In the best interest of the city.” Frizzo had been on sick leave since September 20th.

Thayer has been the acting police chief since that date. Laura Frizzo’s attorney, Roy Polich, did release a statement this afternoon.

Polich said that Frizzo is very disappointed with her termination as police chief. The statement went on to say that Frizzo is very concerned with the current lack of sufficient coverage being provided to the community.

Iron County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powell also released a statement today, calling the taxpayers of Iron River and the citizens of Iron County the real losers in this situation. Laura Frizzo was named Chief of Police of Iron River back in 2014.

She had been with the department for over 20 years.
