Firefighters battle garage fire
SANDS TOWNSHIP — A garage was heavily damaged after a fire broke out in Sands Township on Monday.
Firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire on the 600 block of Miller Road shortly before noon. Sands Township Fire Department officials say a garage at the site was fully engulfed in flames. A resident called 911 from inside the house to report the fire.
A garage fire can be extremely dangerous depending on what materials are inside.
“So for a garage fire, it really does depend on the contents of the garage and how quickly it can be put out. In addition to having enough water available to us, which is why we constantly call for our mutual aid departments,” said Sand Twp. Assistant Fire Chief, Lyn Nelson.
The blaze was put out by about 12:45 p.m. The garage is considered a total loss, and a car inside was damaged as well. No injuries were reported. The house was not damaged. The source of the fire is still under investigation.
The Chocolay Township Fire Department, Forsyth Township Fire, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
