Structure fire lands woman in handcuffs
IRON MOUNTAIN — A 31-year-old woman is behind bars on arson charges after a structure fire in Iron Mountain Friday night.
Theresa Nowaczyk of Iron Mountain is being charged with second-degree arson and arson- preparation to burn real property.
The Iron Mountain Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a structure fire on the 500 Block of Vulcan Street just after 9:30 p.m. After determining that no one was inside the residence, firefighters had the blaze under control in about an hour.
The home sustained significant damage as a result of the fire. The Red Cross assisted the family living at that residence.
Police classified the fire as ‘suspicious in nature.’ Nowaczyk was taken into custody and lodged at the Dickinson County Correctional Center.
Nowaczyk will appear in court for a preliminary exam on September 22nd.
