UPDATE: Body of missing man found in river

UPDATE — 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 (EDT) — The Gogebic County Sheriff has identified the body as 32-year old Jeramiah Joseph Truckey of Negaunee.


UPDATE — 7:17 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 (EDT) — Police say after the victim’s body was located at appropriately 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, recovery efforts were hampered due to dangerous water and difficult terrain.

The body of a 32-year-old Negaunee man was found in the Black River near Sandstone Falls in Ironwood Township. Police were eventually able to recover the body at 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Assisting the Gogebic COunty Sheriff’s Office Deputies in the search were Michigan State Police Dive Team, Gogebic County Search and Rescue, Ironwood Township Fire Departmetn, US Forest Service, the US Coast Guard and numerous local volunteers.

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time pending further investigation.


IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — The search continues this afternoon for a missing Negaunee man in the western U.P.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that a 32-year-old Negaunee man slipped into Black River near Sandstone Falls in Ironwood Township.

Police are searching an area Between Sandstone Falls to the Black River Harbor.

Gogebic County Search and Rescue, Ironwood Township Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard and Gogebic County Victim Services are all assisting the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department.

The Michigan State Police Dive Team and Aviation are en route to assist with the search.
