MUNISING — A teenager visiting Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore was airlifted to the hospital after suffering a head injury Wednesday night.

Just after 10:00 p.m., the Alger County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a camper with a head injury at the Coves Group Campground.

A 14-year-old boy from Kalkaska tripped, fell and struck his head on a rock. Officials say the boy displayed an altered level of consciousness, so the decision was made to transport him to the hospital by helicopter.
