Woman faces charges after crashing car into cemetery
MARQUETTE — An Ishpeming woman faces four charges after crashing an allegedly stolen vehicle into a cemetery.
On Saturday around 4 a.m., 20-year old Ashlee Nicole Domire of Ishpeming drove her vehicle into the fence at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette after a high speed chase with police.
Domire was arraigned on Monday and is now facing one count for fleeing a police officer in the third degree, one count of operating a motor vehicle with unlawful driving away, a third count for operating while intoxicated, and a fourth count for driving with a revoked, suspended, or denied license.
She will be back in the Marquette County District Court later in August for a probable cause case. The fence was damaged along with one tombstone but no one was injured. Cemetery workers are now trying to get the area cleaned up as quickly as possible.
“We’re already kind of getting our prepare schedule in place, we can do some of the work on the grounds ourselves with our staff, and then we’ve got contractors coming in taking a look at the damage to see what they can do and ultimately they will work on some solution for the headstone” said Director of Diocese cemeteries, Neil Newcomb.
Newcomb mentioned that although the cemetery faces some damage, he is just happy that no one was seriously injured.
