Cross-country cyclist injured in accident
MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — A downstate woman was taken to the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle Tuesday morning.
Iron County Sheriff’s deputies say Jane Little, 71 of Ypsilanti, was in the midst of a cross-country bicycle trip with her sister when she was struck from behind by a vehicle while traveling east on the edge of M-69 in Mansfield Township. The incident occurred two miles east of Mansfield Cutoff Road shortly after 9:00 a.m.
Little was transported to Aspirus Iron River for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle — Dale Smith, 30 of Channing — was ticketed for careless driving.
Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Michigan DNR officers and Aspirus EMS.
