Two-vehicle accident sends one to the hospital
SANDS TOWNSHIP — One person was taken to the hospital after an accident Saturday afternoon in Sands Township.
Just before 3:00 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle accident on M-553 near County Road 480. A 2003 Toyota Camry was stopped on M-553 waiting to turn left, when it was rear-ended by a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.
The driver of the Camry, 50-year-old Scott Weiser of Gwinn, was taken to the hospital and was treated for his injuries.
The driver of the Traverse, 33-year-old Kristy Sorensen of Gwinn, was treated at the scene and released. She was found at fault in the accident and was cited.
UP Health System – EMS, Sands Township Fire and EMS, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department, and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division all assisted at the scene.
