Brush fire quickly destroys wooded area
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Another day of warm, dry weather has led to another brush fire in the central U.P.
Just after 1:45 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire on Krooks Road in Negaunee Township. A nearby homeowner tells ABC 10 that he was working nearby in his garage when he smelled smoke.
The homeowner tried putting out the small fire, but it quickly spread, burning about a tenth of an acre before crews had it put out.
“We haven’t had much in precipitation in the last month,” said Jason Caron of the DNR. “Let people know that conditions are very dry and no burning is allowed. They should watch themselves with any activities they do outside.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. No one was injured in the fire.
The Negaunee City and Township Fire Departments assisted the DNR at the scene.
