Local hospital receives five-star awards
IRON MOUNTAIN — A local hospital received multiple awards of excellency, ranking them amongst the nation’s best hospitals in those respected categories.
The staff at Dickinson Memorial Hospital was given a five–star rating in pulmonary care, gastrointestinal care and patient safety this morning from Healthgrades.
Healthgrades is responsible for evaluating over 4,000 hospitals nationwide for 33 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. By receiving a five–star rating, an institution’s clinical outcomes rate better than expected.
Those in attendance agreed that this rank in excellency is due in whole to the hospital’s high level of teamwork.
“The board at the hospital demands excellence and then provides the resources to get excellence and then it’s up to the administration who has done a good job taking that request by the board of excellence and then it’s the front line providers, the doctors, the nurses, the people that bring the food, and the gals and guys who clean the floors,” said Kenneth Friar MD, SFHM. “All those people work together to make this a great place. You start from the very top, all the way to the very bottom, working hard for the person in the bed, which is what our goal is.”
This is the second year in a row the hospital has received the patient safety excellence award. This prestigious title lands Dickinson Memorial in the top 5% of hospitals in the nation.
It has also received a five–star rating in heart attack treatment seven years in a row, an amazing feat staff shared as a proud achievement.
