Child porn suspect waives preliminary exam
HOUGHTON — The case continues against a former athletic director and coach at Houghton High School facing child porn charges.
71–year–old Don Sawaski was scheduled to appear in 97th District Court Monday morning. His attorney filed a motion to waive the hearing so the defendant was bound over to Houghton County Circuit Court.
Sawaski is facing two counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material, both 4 year felonies; and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a 7 year felony. He is currently out on a $25,000 cash bond.
Sawaski is the former athletic director at Houghton High School. He was also a football and track coach and teacher.
He was arrested in Colorado in January as a fugitive from justice.
