Man dies during kayaking trip
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — A Wisconsin man is dead after suffering a head injury during a kayaking trip in Ironwood Township.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police – Wakefield Post were dispatched to the Black River near Narrows Creek. A kayaker, identified as 49-year-old Clint Mabie of Hurley, Wisc., suffered a head injury while kayaking down the river.
Mabie died as a result of his injuries. Officers and paramedics from Beacon Ambulance Service were assisted at the scene by Gogebic County Search & Rescue, the Ironwood Township Fire Department, Gogebic Count Victim’s services and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
