UPDATE: Names released in two-vehicle collision
UPDATE — 4:00 p.m. March 31st, 2016 (EST)
A Gwinn woman needed to be extricated from her vehicle after a two–car collision earlier this afternoon.
Around 11:45 a.m. 74–year–old Helga Turner of Gwinn was traveling roughly a quarter mile South of the crossroads in a Subaru Impreza when she collided with a GMC pickup driven by 16–year–old Anthony Erickson of Skandia.
Turner stated that her windows fogged up and that she could not see. Other witnesses stated that the Subaru went into the opposing northbound lane missing several oncoming vehicles.
Mr. Erickson said he saw other vehicles pull over, but didn’t know why until it was too late and the vehicles collided. He was uninjured in the incident.
Ms. Turner was trapped inside her vehicle and was extricated using the jaws of life. She was admitted to UP Health System – Marquette for non–life threatening injuries.
Citations are expected to be issued. The crash remains under investigation.
SANDS TOWNSHIP — A sedan was totaled after a two-vehicle accident this morning in Sands Township.
Shortly before noon, emergency responders were dispatched to M-553, approximately a quarter mile south of County Road 480. A Subaru Impreza and a GMC Truck were involved in the accident.
The woman driving the Subaru had to be extricated from the vehicle. The pickup truck had was damaged near the front of the drivers side, including a lost tire.
There’s no word yet on any injuries or the cause of the accident. We will pass along more information as it becomes available.
