IRON MOUNTAIN — Now that we are finally seeing a little snow across the U.P., a local police department would like to remind residents of a winter parking ban.

Officials from the Iron Mountain Police Department want to remind residents of the Winter Parking Ordinance which prohibits parking on the streets, in alleys and in certain municipal parking lots between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Officials say that even though the parking ban has been in effect since November 1st, they have not been enforcing it due to our unusually mild weather. However the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Dickinson County effective this afternoon through Tuesday morning. Since it is possible that residents will see up to six inches, officials say they will be enforcing the ordinance and issuing citations for those not adhering to it.

The fine for the violation is $35.
