Purchase of land for new hospital finalized
MARQUETTE — Another step toward the construction of a new campus for a U.P. hospital has been completed.
UP Health System – Marquette announced Tuesday that its purchase of the 37-acre Roundhouse Property from the City of Marquette has been finalized. The real estate transaction was completed Monday. The City Commission approved of the sale and designated it as a Brownfield area last week.
The Roundhouse Property, located between Baraga Avenue and Washington Street, will eventually be the home of an over $300 million medical campus including a 256-bed hospital and an 80,000 square foot medical office building. Officials say that UP Health System – Marquette will continue to occupy its current facilities on College Avenue until the new hospital is up and running. Hospital leaders plan to continue working closely with the city and community to explore future uses for their current facilities.
