CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — A man is in jail after allegedly stealing a car and attempting to flee police in Chocolay Township.
Officers from the Chocolay Township Police Department say they were notified that a 2003 silver Grand Am had been stolen from the 100 block of East Fairbanks Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers realized they had passed a car matching that description on Lakewood Lane, but they were initially unable to locate it again. During a search of the township, police found the vehicle parked behind the Silver Creek Church.
Police say they found a man inside the car who took off on foot after being told to stop. They were able to take the man into custody. He was arrested on charges of unlawful driving away of an automobile and resisting and obstructing officers. He was housed at the Marquette County Jail, and his name is being withheld pending arraignment. The stolen vehicle was returned to its owners.
