U.S. Coast Guard rescues stranded teenagers
MARQUETTE — Two teenagers were rescued by emergency personnel after they became stuck at the bottom of a cliff near Presque Isle late Friday night.
Just after 11 p.m., the Marquette City Fire Department received a call that two boys, ages 17 and 14, became stranded after climbing down an 80-foot cliff. According to the fire department, the boys couldn’t climb back up the steep cliff because it was becoming increasingly dark and they were inexperienced climbers.
The U.S. Coast Guard was able to use the lights on one of their boats to find the boys. The USCG boat was able to get close enough to the shoreline to rescue both boys.
Other than being cold, wet, and tired, the teenagers were uninjured. The Marquette Police Department and an ambulance from U.P. Health System – Marquette assisted at the scene.
