MARQUETTE — A couple hundred people showed up to Jamrich Hall Wednesday afternoon for Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson’s convocation.

In his speech to students, faculty and other NMU employees, Erickson outlined his goals and expectations for the upcoming school year.

One thing that Erickson stressed was partnerships between the school and other institutions.

“Our opportunities far exceed our challenges,” said Erickson. “We have so many opportunities and most of those revolve around partnerships– partnerships with the K–12 community, partnerships with businesses, and partnerships with non–profits. You’ll see a lot from us this year, really working on partnerships.”

Erickson added that academic excellence and student success are also a big part of NMU’s strategic plan, which Erickson hopes to present to the NMU Board of Trustees to approve in December.
