MARQUETTE — A former Marquette resident has been arrested on explosives charges.

Officers from the Marquette City Police Department say 28-year-old Christian Nutini was arrested Monday afternoon as a result of an investigation into damage to the City of Marquette Lift Station on the corner of Hawley Street and Lakeshore Boulevard back in November. He was taken into custody in Houghton County by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

Nutini was arrested on one count of placing explosives near property causing property damage and one count of placing an explosive in or near a vulnerable target. Both counts are felonies punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment each. Nutini is lodged at the Marquette County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond for each count.

Nutini was sentenced in May to sixty days in jail for reckless use of a firearm in connection to an incident in which he discharged a gun in his Marquette home and barricaded himself in that home for five hours before surrendering to police. He was granted release from jail in mid-June to pursue his education.
