UPDATE: Names released in fatal collision on US-41
UPDATE — 8:40 a.m. May 28th, 2015 (EDT)
The names of those involved in the fatal collision on US-41 in Skandia Wednesday morning have been released.
Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say the deceased driver of the 2000 Ford Explorer was 24-year-old Brandon Doneau, most recently of Gwinn. The driver of the semi was identified as 58-year-old Charles Allen of Deer Park, Wisconsin.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office says preliminary investigation revealed that Doneau crossed the center line into the path of the semi for unknown reasons. Officers add that Allen was not injured in the crash.
US-41 was closed for approximately four hours following the accident, which remains under investigation.
UPDATE — 12:04 p.m. May 27th, 2015 (EDT)
More information has been released regarding the accident in Skandia Township this morning.
Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say a semi-tractor was headed southbound near the intersection of US-41 and Kreiger Drive when a northbound 2000 Ford Explorer crossed the center line and collided with the semi. The driver of the Explorer was transported to UP Health System – Marquette and later pronounced dead. The semi driver was treated at the scene and released. The names of those involved are not being released at this time pending notification of family members.
Police say the road remains closed at this time. The scene is expected to be clear within an hour and a half. The crash remains under investigation.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Marquette County Rescue 131, Michigan State Police, Chocolay Township Police, Forsyth Township Police, Skandia Fire Department, Skandia First Responders, UP Health System EMS, and the Marquette County Road Commission.
SKANDIA TOWNSHIP — At least one person was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision in Skandia Township Wednesday morning.
Unofficial reports from the scene indicate that a Ford Explorer SUV in the northbound lane of US-41 collided with a southbound semi-truck around 8:00 a.m. The SUV was heavily damaged and its driver was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi apparently received minor injuries.
The Michigan State Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, and EMS responders are at the scene. ABC 10 will have more information on the incident as it becomes available.
