NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — A Marquette woman was cited for failing to yield after a two-vehicle accident in Negaunee Township Sunday evening.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say the incident happened shortly after 6:00 p.m. on US–41 West near Midway Drive. A 2004 Silver Dodge Caravan driven by 25–year–old Kayla Houghton of Marquette failed to yield when pulling off Midway Drive to head eastbound on US–41. Houghton’s van struck a westbound 2003 Ford pickup driven by 65–year–old Donald Mroz of Republic.

Both vehicles appeared to be totaled in the incident. Police say there were possible minor injuries reported by Mroz’s passenger, but medical treatment was refused at the scene. Two young children in the van were properly restrained and were not injured. Houghton was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by UP Health System EMS and the Negaunee Township Fire Department.
