FORD RIVER TOWNSHIP — A driver was arrested after a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the shutdown of a portion of M-35 in Ford River Township Friday morning.

Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office say they were dispatched to the scene on M-35 just north of L.15 Lane shortly after 5:30 a.m. Initial investigation indicated that the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The pole was broken and electrical lines were down on the roadway, resulting in the shutdown of part of M-35 for around an hour.

Deputies say the driver was arrested on narcotics charges and is lodged at the Delta County Jail. He sustained minor injuries in the accident. His name will not be released until he is arraigned.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Ford River Township Fire, Rampart Ambulance, and the City of Escanaba Electrical Department.
