Huskies win GLIAC Tournament Title

HOUGHTON — For the first time since the 2010-11 season, the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team won the GLIAC Tournament Championship, 68-52 over Ashland.

The Huskies defense stepped up in the second half, keeping the Eagles from scoring inside the low post as much as they did in the opening 20 minutes. Ashland scored 22 of their 27 points in the first half from inside the paint. In the second half, Ashland struggled to score, especially in the first ten minutes.

On the offensive end, Kelli Guy led the way with a game high 18 points. Guy was 6-of-11 from three-point land. Brenna Heise scored 10 points for Michigan Tech on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor.

The Huskies got 26 points from their bench, led by Kylie Moxley who scored nine points. Emily Harrison and Kerry Gardner each added six big points.

Michigan Tech has a 27-2 record heading into the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament.
