Marquette stabbing suspect arraigned
MARQUETTE — A 26-year-old man is charged with assault after allegedly stabbing another man minutes after the New Year’s Eve ball drop in downtown Marquette.
Casey Brian Kallio, who has a Ewen address but says he is living with a friend in Niagara, Wisconsin, appeared via teleconference for his arraignment Monday in Marquette County District Court.
He is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder (a 10-year felony) and malicious destruction of personal property between $200-1,000 (a one-year misdemeanor). The misdemeanor charge stems from an incident in which Kallio slashed the tires of Tanya Wonnacott’s vehicle before the stabbing.
Kallio allegedly stabbed Christopher Koory in the alley on the 400 block of W. Washington Street. Koory was transported to UP Health System Marquette for treatment of his injuries, but those injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Kallio was assigned a court-appointed attorney, Antonio Ruiz, during his appearance in court.
He is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $105,000 cash/surety bond. A probable cause conference is scheduled for January 13th and a preliminary exam for Kallio will take place on January 15th.
